Environment Studies2 by Tatchit Environment Studies2 by Tatchit
Main focus here was atmosphere and how color-even though different, can somewhat give a similar theme.

The second image is largely based on this: [link]

First image was random, and was a pain for some reason. Both are not speedpaints, I spent too much time fiddling with details (they are not 'polished' works despite this)

I use birds to give a sense of scale. The first bird must be a giant haha.

I love them. The first one gives such a feeling of freedom to me. The second one feels isolated but safe.

It's good, I've got a lot of studying and some dreadful papers to write this weekend for next weeks finals-but then after that I'm on summer break and can really get into some serious arting.

These paintings are so beautiful.. I love all your background art very much. I've taken a look at the person youve learned from on youtube and that person has helped me understand and appreciate background art even more. I love the birds on both of these pictures since it gives each environment a sense of scale and depth. You surely are amazing xD

outstanding! your sense of colour and painting is amazing. I know this must be asked plenty of times but I have to know if you can do a step by step process? or a tutorial on these kinda of things? like how you do painting. the step by step can just be pictures from start to finish. you don't really even need to explain. but goodness I would love to know in order to get a good idea on where to start in digital painting.

It's really hard to put into words on how I work. Sometimes I just slop a bunch of stuff down and see what I can make of it. Other times I have an idea I'd like to create (which usually never turns out quite like the way I want.)

idk, maybe I could do a tutorial sometime, but it's really just a bunch of blocking in color then working on detail after. I do not work at 100% on these-it obscures your ability to see depth (in my case anyways.) So working at 50% about makes things much easier. After you have your depth, you can then zoom in and dab details here and there.

I completely understand, I often get people that ask me how I draw a certain way and I have no way on telling them?? cause I just do it. So I understand on that part (which hence, even just a stepbystep image showing the process would help. something like this - [link] best example I have)

I've never been good at painting digitally that's for sure, I depend too much on doing lineart and such that I really don't know how people are able to do it and I've always wanted to mold my way into that field of art.

work at 50%? you mean like brush opacity? o: tend to use the opacity tool in my paintings attempts though I feel I should use different brushes, but even then I don't know what would be the most efficient to use.

Thank you so much for replying and giving me a good idea c:

With opacity I change that around, but with the percentage '50%' I meant the zooming in and out with the canvas. Some people might start out doing detail, and zoom in 300% and then the depth is all thrown off because they didn't block in first. Not to say my way is the right way-but many artists who are familiar with drawing backgrounds and can give that cool 3-D look often block in first.

But even when I'm done blocking in and into the detailing, I never zoom in past 100% anymore-there's no sense in it. When printed some of this detail may not show up at all. XD

OHH I see now. I get you, it's a good point. I'm getting an idea xD inspires me to give it a shot. What brushes do you normally use by chance?

Maybe when doing it I shouldn't be to concerned with how things are detailed and put on o: really good advice actually. Thank you!

For painting scenery, I use all kinds of brushes. .-. I download tons of paintery brushes from the net and even here on DA.
